    - Troubleshooting only - Change the COM port number and match the settings in data transfer program
  5. Run the correct data transfer program and configure settings
  6. Connect the phone to the cable adapter, then re-insert the cable into the USB port

Everything should be up and running now! Browse the bundled ringtones and wallpapers in the CD for transfers. Feel free to visit our support page at www.sohogopher.com/support/ for further information, free ringtones, wallpapers and special offers.

STEP 2 Installing the cable driver

Load the bundled CD into your CD drive and browse the content.

Most cables will need the USB-to-Serial cable driver, click on cable_driver_v.1.5.exe in your CD drive.
The newer version (e.g. v2.0) will be needed if it fails to install in your computer.

The dialog "please unplug the cable before to install driver!" may be shown, but this is for reassurance to avoid hardware conflicts during installation. Click OK to proceed.

In some rare cases it may display "installation failed", all you have to do is restarting the Windows and proceed to STEP 3.

Restart the PC if this is not your first installation since the registry and settings need to be reset.

STEP 3 Detecting the cable

Insert the cable into a designated USB port. Do not plug into another port the next time as it will be detected as another new device.

Wait a few seconds and a notification will pop up as illustrated below:

Some Windows versions may not have such, proceed to the next step to check if the driver was properly installed.

STEP 4 Locating the cable COM port

Open Device Manager under Control Panel > System > Hardware OR

Start > My Computer > [Right Click] Properties > Hardware > Device Manager (as illustrated below:)

In this case the cable is on COM4, it is normal when your computer may pick a different COM port:

Tip: If you cannot find Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port on any COM port with the cable inserted, it means the driver was not successfully installed. Please uninstall the driver [click here for illustration], restart the computer and redo step 1.

Right click on the item and select Properties

Choose the suggested "Bits per second" (see below for the optimum speed for different cables)

Nokia DKU-5 9600/57600 bps
Samsung USB 115200 bps
Siemens USB 115200 bps
Sony Ericsson USB 115200 bps
Panasonic USB 115200 bps

Note that these are only suggested speed, actual working bit-per-second may vary due to computer configurations.

Tip: When contacting us for technical support, please quote the driver version (displays next to Port Settings).

- Troubleshooting only - Change the COM port number and match the settings in data transfer program

Note: You should only change the COM port number when the data transfer program fails to detect the mobile during the initial installation.

Uninstall both the data transfer program and cable driver before doing so to reset all registries in Windows.

From DEVICE MANAGER, select Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port and right click to choose Properties.

Select PORT SETTINGS, and then ADVANCED...

Force the COM Port Number to either COM1 or COM2, whichever not connected to a physical device (e.g. dial-up modem) and neglect the "In Use" note.

You will be warned as below, click YES to continue.

Remember to match the settings in the data transfer program (e.g. EasyStudio, EasyGPRS or Data Suite).
